Something a little different

When I see rap videos nowadays, it’s a load of people staying around a car, girls, guns, whatever. I think it’s time for something a little different, but even in animation, it can be generic. Music is subjective, so you can’t always explain exactly what is going on visually. Sometimes, you just got to catch the vibe and see the vision.

There were many changes during the design process of this video. I tried fully 3D characters, but 3D doesn’t have the same draw it used to, I think this is due to the saturation of many years of Pixar, etc movies (which are all really good) But when I go back to one of the animators that inspire me Genndy Tartakovskys work like Samurai Jack. What I loved is how simple the animations were, not much detail but still powerful. I tried to apply a similar style to this. Also, time wasn’t on my side as I did this all by myself, and I needed this done as quickly and efficiently as possible.

I’ve done a lot of animations in my life. I’m still learning and perfecting it every day. To see the reaction from the guys, GAWD STATUS gives me a warm feeling inside and the biggest sense of achievement. This will live forever, beyond me. Plus, it elevates the track and makes it timeless cause you don’t see things like this every day.
